May 9, 2018

Last night we had some rain showers as forecast. The temps are cooler today as we continue to get some periodic rain. It's currently 63 degrees with winds from the west at 7 mph. Tomorrow will be sunny and partly cloudy, but the high is 65. Friday we are expecting some more rain and cooler temps in the 40's.

The surface map above shows the rain over some of Minnesota and Wisconsin. There is also an occluded front going through WI.

May 8, 2017

It is currently 65 degrees and party cloudy with some cirrus clouds. Winds are coming from the ESE at 2 mph. Cloud coverage will increase as the day goes on and will bring some possible rain. Tomorrow there will be scattered thunderstorms as well as Friday and Saturday.

The map shows areas of rain starting to move into the Midwest. There is also a cold front right between northern US and Canada. There is a dry line present on the west side of Texas.

May 7, 2018

This weekend we had some gorgeous weather! Saturday was 80 degrees and sunny. However, we did get some rain for a couple of hours that night. Yesterday I ran the Eau Claire half marathon in 65 degree weather with straight sun, so it was a hot one for runners! We reached a high of about 71 yesterday and the winds were calm.

As for today, it is already 70 degrees at 9:30 am with clear skies and sun. We will reach a high of 82 later on, winds are from the SW at 13 mph. Looking ahead at the week it looks like we may need our umbrellas. Rain is possible tomorrow evening and more likely on Wednesday. Along with that rain, we will experience some cooler temps in the 50's and 60's.

May 3, 2018

Today is a beautiful sunny day with some scattered clouds. It is currently 62 degrees with a high of 74 later on.

Above are two pictures I took this morning. The first picture shows some altocumulus clouds and the bottom picture seems to have some cirrocumulus clouds (mackerel sky), which means an approaching warm front and that is what we are experiencing.

The rest of the week will be similar today and possibly even warmer!

May 2, 2018

We didn't get any rain until midnight last night, but we were expecting it earlier in the day yesterday. This morning was gloomy with overcast skies and a light drizzle. It's a bit chilly as it is currently 56 degrees with winds from the W at 9 mph.

There is a dry line separating the eastern and western states. The west is experiencing dry, hot air while the west is experiencing warm, moist, unstable air. This explains the humidity we have felt for the past couple of days. This mixture could produce some severe weather across the country in the near future.

May 1, 2018

Happy May! It's a little late for April showers to bring May flowers, but we are finally getting some rain today. Right now it is 68 degrees with SW winds at 12 mph. On my walk to school there was a halo around the sun, which means cirrostratus clouds. Yesterday there were cirrus clouds going E to SE, which means rain! However, the rain won't come until later today. You should keep an eye on the vertical growth of clouds to gauge when the rain will come.

It definitely feels extra warm outside and that is because of a warm front coming up to WI. We are getting maritime tropical weather from the gulf. As for the rest of the week, it should be in the 70's with no precipitation.

April 29, 2018

It has been a beautiful weekend! Yesterday was 60 degrees with party cloudy skies. Right now it is currently 63 and sunny. Winds are coming from the south at 15 mph. Tonight we are expecting some rain, and tomorrow will be sunny and 75 degrees!

From the picture above, the Midwest is finally getting a break from any crazy weather. The west is experiencing some rain and low pressure systems along with an occluded front going through Utah and a couple of other states. Then there is a warm front almost in the middle of the country, leading into an occluded front down in the south eastern states.

April 26, 2018

It's another beautiful day. It's currently 45 degrees, and we will reach a high of 63. There are 4 mph winds from the SSW. There is flooding in western WI due to the snow melting. There is a cold front going through the northern middle states of the country, which will be coming our way (you can see this in the surface map and the wind sfc map below). There is a 40% chance of rain tomorrow, which we are hoping for because April showers bring May flowers!

April 24, 2018

It is currently 56 degrees with winds from the north at 1 mph. We have another sunny, calm day with some scattered cirrus clouds. In the picture below, you can see there is occluded front over Wisconsin. This is due to the fact that warm air is coming from the south, but there is also colder air blowing in from the north. There is a maritime tropical air mass coming in from the East, which is causing the precipitation over those states. There is another cold front coming in (it's currently in the middle of the country), which is going to bring some precipitation in a couple of days. After, we will see some more sunny warm weather due to the high pressure systems.

April 23, 2018

Happy Monday! It is super sunny and not a cloud is in the sky. Currently it is 64 degrees, and we will reach 68 degrees today!!!! There are 2 mph winds from the south, which makes for a pleasant spring day. Rain is possible on Thursday, but other than that the week should be sunny and in the 60's.

April 22, 2018

It has been amazing weather this weekend! I was outside enjoying it and I spent Friday and yesterday in Sheboygan, WI apartment hunting. It was in the upper 50's all weekend with sun. As far as clouds, yesterday there were scattered cirrus clouds in the sky, they were thin and wispy. Today we have a high of 61 degrees with calm SE winds at 7 mph and sun. Tomorrow is going to be 66, so that's exciting. Looking ahead at the rest of the week, there shouldn't be any precipitation coming our way, and we are going to continue the trend of warmer weather.

Most of the U.S. is looking clear besides the southern area near Texas. There is an area of high pressure over Lake Michigan because it is a big body of water, and it is still has cooler air.

April 18, 2018

It's a gloomy day with overcast and a current temperature of 34 degrees and 9 mph winds from the ENE. It's chilly today, but the rest of the week will warm up to the 50's and possible 60's with some sun!

We are going to start experiencing the warmer air from the west as the jet stream above shows.

April 15, 2018

Happy Sunday and 150th day of winter! Friday night I went to a concert in Minneapolis and the snow started around 7 pm. By the time we were out of the concert, the roads were slushy because it was still slightly warm. As the night went on the snow continued, and it didn't let up until early this morning. We accumulated about a foot of snow and there were high winds yesterday causing blizzard conditions. I've added a couple of pictures of below during the snow storm.

As you can see, winter storm Xanto has affected much of the midwest. This is the 3rd heaviest April snowstorm on record in the Twin Cities/St. Paul area. The storm is still between two areas of low pressure, which is still giving the storm its power. Nimbostratus clouds were present as they create continuous precipitation.

Currently, there are still winds at 23 mph coming from the NNE. Today we are going to accumulate some more snow anywhere from 1-5 inches. The rest of the week still isn't too promising for Spring. We have temps in the 30's and 40's and possible snow again on Wednesday.
